Bukowski, Hemingway, and the Rest of Us

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I have been reading about the lives, well, actually, about the deaths of writers and poets and it helps me put the day’s political nightmares and madness in perspective.

The endgame is rarely very pretty. It is never about winners or losers, but always about losing:

Bukowski, of course, whose wife Linda said of him at the end, “He was such a brave soldier,” as he died in his hospital bed after a long life of debauchery and honesty.
